Se han descubierto nuevos tesoros arqueológicos, incluido un templo mortuorio que data de hace más de 2.500 años, en la necrópolis de Saqqara, ubicada al sur de El Cairo.

Estos sarcófagos de madera que datan del Imperio Nuevo (siglos XVI-XI a.C.) se encontraron en 52 fosas funerarias de diez a doce metros de profundidad, dijo el ministerio.
“Se han descubierto el templo mortuorio de la reina Naert, esposa del rey Teti”, así como tres almacenes de ladrillos, dijo Hawass.
Según Zahi Hawass, este descubrimiento podría proporcionar información adicional sobre la historia de Saqqara durante el Nuevo Reino.
El sitio de Saqqara, donde hay diez pirámides, antiguos monasterios o lugares de enterramiento de animales, es una vasta necrópolis de la antigua capital egipcia, Memphis, catalogada como Patrimonio de la Humanidad por la UNESCO.
