La flor recién descrita se parece mucho a una especie relacionada de orquídea llamada Spiranthes australis, que crece comúnmente en los parques y jardines japoneses.
La nueva especie de orquídea fue notada por el experto Kenji Suezugu de la Universidad de Kobe y su equipo en la isla japonesa del Pacífico de Hachijojima. Por lo tanto, llamaron a la flor Spiranthes hachijoensis.
